Why Tracking Your Fitness Results Is Important

What is something both exciting about fitness goals and discouraging? If you just guessed tracking the results and seeing them, you’d be correct! Whether you track your results through taking photos and comparing them or whether it be on a scale and you’re looking at the numbers, sometimes we love what we see and sometimes it makes us want to throw in the towel. That’s the problem with most tracking nowadays. Most people are in the habit of just hopping on the scale which just says your weight and if that number goes up we assume it’s bad.

We as humans also can get fixated on not noticing the one “problem area” we have not changed and never notice the areas that have improved in photos. That’s why using an InBody scanner has become my way of tracking my progress no matter what the goal is. It tells me exactly why the scale went up or down and helps guide me in the right directions to hit my goal!

Frustated With Your Fitness Results?

We’ve all been there, you know that spot in our journey to hit a fitness goal where you step on the scale after what we think was a stellar week on our diet and fitness, and then we hop on the scale and it doesn’t read what we want it to. Just like that, we want to throw in the towel or we think well maybe I just need to get even more aggressive with the diet and maybe up my cardio at the gym and then the time comes again and it still doesn’t read what you want to.

There is nothing more frustrating, at least in that current moment, then not getting the results you’re fighting for. How do you know you’re not getting the results you’re fighting for with just a scale though. So you’re trying to lose weight, and everyone means body fat when we say weight, but the scale goes up. What if the weight went up because of a good reason though like you gained muscle but you body fat still went down. There’s no way to tell that by just using a regular old scale though. So let’s talk about why it’s beneficial to use an InBody machine to track your fitness goals.

What is the InBody Scanner?

Before we get into why using the InBody is so amazing and smart, let’s talk about what this machine even is and how it works. The InBody scale measures body composition through a method called bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). First used in the 1960s, the BIA method sends a small alternating current through the body that allows for highly accurate measurements of a person’s body fat as well as water, lean mass, overall weight, and more. BIA is painless, quick, non-invasive, and does not pose any risk of side effects like being exposed to small amounts of radiation with some other scanners.

Here are some benefits of using the InBody and what you can learn:

1) If you’re drinking enough water or if you’re dehydrated.
2) how healthy your cells are.
3) whether you’re losing or gaining muscle mass and fat.
4) how many calories your body is burning at rest and your body fat percentage.

Let’s take the scenario of trying to lose weight like I spoke about above. You hop on the scale at the end of the week to see how much “weight” you’ve lost and BAM the scale shows that you’re up 1.7lbs. You immediately want to get discouraged and quit the goal since you’re so mad.

However, if you hop on the InBody scale you would have seen that you did gain 1.7lbs because you gained some muscle and you even dropped a little bit of body fat. That is ultimately what you want to see when “losing weight” is your goal. Or maybe the reason why the weight is slightly up is because your body is holding on to more water today than it has the last few days. The InBody will show you these things and that would have taken you from being upset about the results to now even more encouraged and inspired to keep going.

Here’s another scenario for you. You’ve just decided you want to compete in a physique show this year. You want to make sure that you’re doing everything you possibly can to look the best on that stage. How can you make sure that your muscles are symmetrical and your left leg isn’t bigger than the other. Using the InBody will actually show you how much each leg and arm weighs and how much muscle is in each. Little things like that make a big difference and can help you see your progress and how equally you’re using your muscles. Just another way to help make sure you’re getting the most out of everything you’re going to prep for this show!

Even if you’re training with a trainer and you have know clue what any of the info on the paper the InBody machine will print out for you, your trainer will. What’s nice about that is your trainer can make proper recommendations on things you should do and it will also help them out and what they need to do with you to get you to your goal!

They will be able to see what progress you have made and help build a strong plan to improve your workouts. Also they’ll beagle to see how hydrated you are and maybe even recommend a few things to help you stay hydrated if you need the help! So know matter what your goal is or what you’re trying to do with your body, go track your progress with an InBody machine. They are readily available at many gyms and nutrition shops and are waiting to help you on your fitness and health journey!
